The story so far

Formed in 1946 as St Martin's Players by Sunday School Superintendent Elsie Martin to raise funds for St Martin's Church Hall, the first production was a Variety Concert in Knebworth Village Hall.

Variety has been our watchword ever since. We aim to put on a mix of classical and modern plays, and can never resist a challenge - from Restoration Comedy (The Way of the World by William Congreve) to modern plays with strong language (John Godber's Teechers and One for the Road by Willy Russell) and American accents (On Golden Pond, Ernest Thompson, and Plaza Suite, Neil Simon).

St Martin's Hall was home to the players for over 40 years - from 1947 to 1990 when the final curtain was brought down on this "temporary" building. Change of home, change of name - KATS was born in 1991 when we moved to Lytton Hall in the grounds of Knebworth House.

In 2001 the wheel turned full circle. Lytton Hall was earmarked for development and our summer production "As You Like It" by William Shakespeare was right back where we started in the Village Hall.
